Importer of Record and Pre-Shipment Documentation

Importer of Record

While FGX helps our clients act as the Importer of Record themselves, it is rare that our clients are able to act as their own Importer of Record in Vietnam. Vietnam is not a location where companies shipping internationally typically have a business entity authorized to import. This means they will need to find an IOR provider to act as their importer of record.

Documentation Requirements

The overall customs clearance process in Vietnam requires a lot of information about the products you are planning to ship.

Depending on the equipment you are planning to ship, you may need a Certificate of Conformity in addition to product data sheets, user manuals, test reports, and product photos.

IT Shipping & Logistics

Unlike other locations, Vietnam has a limited amount of daily air freight options. This does not necessarily extend your door-to-datacenter timeline. You just need to have a shipping provider who is knowledgeable of the airlines that fly into Vietnam regularly and their flight patterns.

However, these limitations may mean that your shipment’s arrival city into Vietnam may not be close to its end destination city. You should budget additional time for shipments destined for an area outside the Ho Chi Minh metropolitan area.

As of the publish date of this article, our clients are coping with the difficulties of the global supply chain delays. These have affected availability and lead times for popular IT, networking, and compute products. In many scenarios, it can make sense to purchase additional assets for future expansion. FGX can provide safe, secure, and convenient warehousing solutions for our clients to utilize as stocking locations in emerging markets, like Vietnam.

FGX manages all of our client’s shipments door-to-door (or door-to-data center). This case study showcases how we navigated IT logistics and importation into Vietnam at the time that it was written. Regulations and challenges are constantly changing and exact shipping requirements may have changed.
