Importer of Record and Pre-Shipment Documentation
Singapore is a hub for companies planning to expand across the APAC region. This makes it an ideal location for those looking to grow their digital infrastructure and a popular location for companies to obtain foreign business entities. Many FGX clients will already have foreign entities in Singapore with import licenses. When this is the case, FGX facilitates our clients acting as their own Importer of Record. If you do not have a local entity, or your entity is unable to import, FGX can easily provide Importer of Record services as part of our door-to-data center solution.
The Consumer Party Safety Regulation body requires certain goods to be tested for safety requirements before they are imported into Singapore. However, the import process in Singapore is extremely advanced. If customs is familiar with your equipment you may not need to receive pre-approval from CPSR, you may simply need to provide the HS code. A knowledgeable import service provider, like FGX, should be able to establish when pre-approval is needed and when your equipment can be shipped without additional requirements.
IT Shipping & Logistics
Geographically, Singapore is well placed and central to many APAC countries and with little to no environmental risk. The low risk of environmental disasters and the lack of any harsh climate means that there is no need for extensive contingency in the case of natural disasters.
Shipments to Singapore typically have a relatively quick timeline. Documentation is uniform and familiar and wide-bodied aircraft flights are frequent. Hardware can typically be shipped out the next day after arriving in FGX’s facility in the USA. Singapore is also fairly small. Last-mile delivery can take anywhere from a couple of hours to within a day.
Additionally, Singapore is one of the highest volume areas for FGX in terms of IT Shipments. Because of this, our process is seamless. We can often get hardware from our facility in the US to its final designation in Singapore in less than a week.
FGX manages all of our client’s shipments door-to-door (or door-to-data center). This case study showcases how we navigated IT logistics and importation into Singapore at the time that it was written. Regulations and challenges are constantly changing and exact shipping requirements may have changed. To learn more about FGX and how our global shipping platform can help your company, reach out here.
