Importer of Record and Pre-Shipment Documentation

Importer of Record

Like other locations in Europe, utilizing Importer of Record services in Ireland is fairly common. If you have an Irish entity with an import license, FGX can help you act as your own Importer of Record and assist in the VAT reclamation process. If you are not eligible to act as your own Importer of Record or prefer to utilize an Importer of Record provider, FGX can provide our services as part of our supply-chain solution.

EORI

You will need an EORI number for any imports into the EU. Your EORI number allows customs to track your shipment throughout Europe and is an extension of your VAT number. If you are acting as your own Importer of Record then you will need your own EORI number. If FGX is providing you with an Importer of Record service, then one will be provided for you.

Registering for your own VAT ID in Ireland will enable you to submit VAT reclamations on eligible imports. Please read our VAT reclamation article here for more information.

Data Center Industry in Ireland

Ireland is one of the top 5 data center markets in Europe which makes it a popular colocation destination for our clients. As of 2020, the market was valued at $2.27B and is expected to grow to $3.27B by 2026. If you are looking to expand your infrastructure in Europe, Ireland can be an ideal site for colocation.

IT Shipping & Logistics

The shipping and logistics process is relatively quick. Airfreight takes one to two working days and customs clearance takes about a day. Ireland is fairly small, so last-mile delivery typically only takes a few days. If you have a knowledgeable supply-chain provider you should be able to complete your shipment, end-to-end, within a week or less. While we can typically secure air freight and ship your equipment within a couple of days, routing delays can occur adding a day or two to transit time.

FGX manages all of our client’s shipments door-to-door (or door-to-datacenter). This case study showcases how we navigated IT logistics and importation into Ireland at the time that it was written. Regulations and challenges are constantly changing and exact shipping requirements may have changed. To learn more about FGX and how our global shipping platform can help your company, reach out here.
