Importer of Record and Pre-Shipment Documentation
Digitalization has been slow to impact Hungary, but the 2020 pandemic accelerated digitization and cloud development in the country. EORI
If you’re looking to act as your own IOR into Europe, you will need an EORI number. Your EORI number allows customs to track your shipment throughout Europe and is an extension of your VAT number.
VAT
Hungary’s VAT rate is 27 percent, which is higher than many other countries in Europe. Because of the higher than average VAT rate, VAT reclamation can be an attractive option for companies that act as their own Importer of Record and who are VAT eligible.

IT Shipping & Logistics
The shipping and logistics process is relatively quick. Air freight takes two to three days, customs clearance takes about a day, and last-mile delivery within the Budapest metro area takes two to three more working days. If you have a knowledgeable supply-chain provider you should be able to complete your shipment, end-to-end, within roughly a week.
