Importer of Record and Pre-Shipment Documentation

Dubai is one of the least complex destinations to ship IT hardware into in the region, and for that reason, it’s a popular location for clients who want to expand their business.

Telecommunications, wireless, and radio equipment will need TRA approval. TRA – the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority – is the agency in the UAE that’s responsible for setting standards and regulations and for ensuring that equipment is in compliance with local laws. FGX can help you identify which equipment will need approval and obtain the necessary permits.

In the UAE, there are challenges when importing cameras, especially security cameras. We suggest that you avoid importing cameras if possible.

Lastly, the signed documents that are sent along with the shipment will need a wet signature. The UAE prefers hard copy documents as opposed to virtual ones.

IT Shipping & Logistics

Wide-bodied air freight to the UAE is very common and you should be able to secure space within days. Most of our clients are shipping to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which only takes a few days for last-mile delivery. Even if you are shipping to a more remote location, Dubai has good transportation infrastructure and last-mile delivery should be quick. However, like any location in the Middle East, you should ensure that your equipment is properly packaged to secure it against the elements.

FGX manages all of our client’s shipments door-to-door (or door-to-datacenter). This case study showcases how we navigated IT logistics and importation into Dubai at the time that it was written. Regulations and challenges are constantly changing and exact shipping requirements may have changed. To learn more about FGX and how our global shipping platform can help your company, reach out here.
